Two treatments for beg bugs and problem is still not resolved in Scotia towers. Imagine we saw a roach too last night. What the helll!!! How come theres a roach running about on the same day pest control was in. How does the solution even work?

November 2020 bug bites appear sporadically. Went to my doctor who assumed because of the strange activity that it would probably be some other kind of insect bite. Fast forward Feb 2021. Another bite appear. I'm frustrated because it's on my face this time. But then it stops again..still searching but finding nothing. Very irregular. Then boom
March another bite. We call and it takes 3 days to get pest control in.
The night before pest control was due to come in...we found a bug and caught

it. Next day its confirmed to be a bed bug. They treat the apartments above below and on either side. NO follow up. When will they be back? No clear instructions. I've put up with enough at this point....silverfish mice roaches ....sucks!

On Monday January 20, 2020 one of my neighbours reported having bedbugs. I know this as I have to receive a preventative treatment. I am not confident that this will be dealt with appropriate as I had cockroaches running through my suite for two years.

Bed bugs, mice, mold and asbestos. Broken floors and heating, broken shower head and sink, old windows, management are fucking assholes.

This place is fucking awful. There are flees, bed bugs, mold, asbestos, flooding, no insulation, poor flooring, poor maintenance who can not fix things because of ignorant management. Want to move in, prepare for issues.

I know two people who both lived in the building, and both of them complained about bed bugs. This was about 4 years ago now, but they said the women working in the office were impossible to deal with and it took forever to get anything done about it. The posts on this page saying there are no bedbugs in the building were likely posted by building management to try and prevent this information from being spread. Obviously with the amount of posts on this page, as well as the testimony of my boyf

riend and his sister, there have definitely been bugs in this building, and likely still are

We had a bedbug problem here back in November. I honestly have no idea where they came from, but it got so bad that at one point my roommate had to move out (he eventually moved back in after the problem was fixed).

It was very difficult to get aid from their staff on this issue; they consistantly either forgot to make the appointments with the exterminator, gave silly deadlines or told him to show up at odd times without telling us (IE he'd show up on a day where we hadn't been told he wa

s coming, so our rooms weren't prepared for the chemical spray). It also took four individual visits from the exterminator to get rid of the problem.

However, the problem WAS eventually solved and the bed bugs were eliminated. So, I guess my overall point on this apartment building is that there certainly are bed bugs in the building, and staff is somewhat difficult to deal with, but you will eventually get rid of the problem with their help if it pops up.

Nothing wrong here - 2011/07/17

I absolutely LOVE Scotia Towers. I have never seen a bedbug here although I have seen the occasional silverfish (but honestly is there a building in Halifax that doesn't have Silverfish? - they won't hurt you lol). I just wanted to write this to say that these silly reports shouldn't discourage anyone from living here - come see for yourself. And yes soemtimes maintainence reports are overlooked or put off for a while - but the employees here work very hard

to satisfy the enormous amount of tenants in these buildings... just be a smart tenant. Write things down, take pictures and fill out reports (no matter where you live). There are no begbugs here.

I live at Scotia Towers and I have never had any problems with bed bugs and neither have any of my friends. It is a great place to live. I think that this is horrible that people put lies here because they have some kind of axe to grind. I see a familiar post from someone about a brothel being run from here that was posted on another site. You should do your homework better because had you read the follow up stories it was at a hotel that was close by and not at Scotia Towers. This is a great pl

ace to live and don't believe what others are saying. The internet is a great place for people like you because it allows you to post whatever you want even if it isn't true. I have referred friends to Scotia Towers without hesitation and will continue living here.

Absolutely do not rent in Scotia Tower, 1991 Brunswick street, owned by Realstar. I cannot begin to describe the difficulty we've had. This place is, indeed, infested with silverfish. It is NEVER cleaned. I have read reports on bedbugs in the building, but haven't experienced them personally. There was an active brothel (reported in the Herald) in this building during the past year.

For the past couple months I have been dealing with management over bed bugs, the ladies in the office are useless to talk to and will do very little to help. Turns out I am allergic to bed bugs to the point where my arms and ankles swell up so bad, had to go to the Dr. and it wasnt until I brought in a doctors note that they actually did something about it. Moved to a new location and have recently noticed I have brought them with me. This could have been delt with sooner and now I am taking

action into my own hands and will be contacting health services and possibly taking these idiots to a small claims court. DO NOT LIVE HERE! There are also silverfish bugs everywhere.

Take it from me I know this building is NOT as they say infested but there has been four or five cases and action was taken If most of you people were not draging home, street trash furniture from low grade buildings then HRM wouldnt have a proplem to begin with so take it from someone that knows any building in HRM that has or had a problem it was started from the hooker or crack dealer you drug home SO ITS YOUR FAULT

Hi,

I am considering to move to this apartment building. But after the recent posts on bed bugs, I'm now having second thoughts. Are there still bed bugs in this building?

I've been having problems with the management company since we moved in over a year ago. The fire alarms go off at 2 am, our apartment is leaking, and there are bugs. I've reported the bugs 5 times, they refuse to spray and intimidate you from reporting.

I reported serious issues with our apartment each week for 7 weeks, and each time, they claim I've never reported these issues. Don't move in!

I also am experiencing problems with bedbugs at this location. I have reported it to the rental office many times and they have done little to help. I have had to quarenteene my bedroom and sleep on my couch. I have been counting down the days until my lease expires. I asked at the rental office about the other reports online and they said that the other reports were by digrunteled former tenants and they were suing the person (I think this was meant to intimidate me from reporting the problem o

nline). Do not rent here. It would be better to live at the Y.

I have lived at 1991 Brunswick St. for 13 years now and I can tell you that I have never had bedbugs in my apartment. I have many friends who live in the building too and I know that they do not have bedbugs in their apartments either. I am sure that if there was such a problem, especially and "infestation" as indicated in a post, that one would hear someone talking about it at some point whether in the elevator or in the laundry room. I am surprised that people would make such untrue remarks. I

enjoy my apartment and will continue to call Scotia Towers my home for many more years.

This place is infested.... don't move there! Trying to get out of my lease as we speak

I am thinking of moving into this apartment complex and was wondering if anyone had any issues recently with bed bugs or if there have been no more incidents. After having an experience with bedbugs that put me in the hospital I am really looking for somewhere with no issues! Thanks

advice: gather information about how many other tenants have bed bugs, get signatures. write a letter to the department of health they can potentially get the building closed down--thus getting you out of your lease.

I noticed a small red bite on my back a few days ago and thought nothing of it, but day by day it got worse, and is now covering my entire body. I went to the doctor to get treated for the bed bug bites, but I noticed someone else already reported bed bugs earlier last month. This is unacceptable.

I moved into 1991 Brunswick St recently, and on my second night there I woke up at 4 or 5 am feeling a little startled with itchy red bites on my outer thigh. The apartment was unfurnished, and all my furniture was from my home where it had been used prior without problems, so I figured it couldn't be bed bugs, and went back to sleep.

Then I woke up the next morning and was trying to figure out what the heck could have bitten me. I did a little reading about bed bugs online that day, and star

ted to get worried. I read that they like to hide in wooden crevices or cracks and very difficult to spot (prior to this I thought they were much larger, beetle-sized critters).

I got back that evening, and began investigating. I found several live bed bugs in the living room and my bedroom, as well as numerous dead dry ones. I've reported it to the landlord, but they appear in a state of denial over things (to their credit, they say they'll get an exterminator quickly).

I cannot tolerate living with the thought that any given night creatures could be coming to suck my blood. So I've gathered photos, samples of grit in the corners where the bugs were most prevalent, and a few bugs I caught on a lint brush. I'm hoping to have the lease terminated, though management seemed hell bent against that. Given this situation, I'd strongly advise others against entering into leases in this building or with the company that runs it - Realstar.
