as the landlord of this property I wish to add the other side of the story
The tenant who submitted the report was famously filthy throughout the building. The reason I allowed her to break her lease was because I knew once she left the problem would be solved.
and so it came to pass

As of January 30 3013 we have no problem in apartment 2L or anywhere alse in our building
Big surprise...good riddance Ellie Bisker!!

Apt 2L was plagued by bedbugs from June-August 2008, at which point we moved out. The landlord sent his exterminator, who was on retainer and basically did the "spray and pray" method with no follow-up or other instructions, which (big surprise) didn't work. When we asked him to hire a someone else, landlord refused and offered to give us a month of free rent and let us break our lease rather than pay for an experienced pest control operator. We don't know what happened after we moved out.

Th

e tenants of Apt 1R had bedbugs earlier in the year and bought their own chemicals to treat, which seemed to work for them (though may have contributed to spreading the bugs within the building). The tenants of Apt 1L had had them at some point and also self-treated. We heard from other tenants that that a 4th floor apt had had them as well. It seems that the building has had recurring bedbug problems going back at least 3 years.

When discussing with this the landlord he described the situation to us as "under control."
