As of October 2008 there are at least 6 infested apartments that we are aware of. The problem was first known in one apartment in the summer of 2007, the landlord had a professional exterminator in and the tenant moved out. Unfortunately, the spraying seems to have spread the problem, causing the bedbugs to retreat further into the walls and floors, and traveling vertically up and down and to adjacent apartments. The landlord is doing what is legally required, but in a multiple family dwelling, commercial treatments, based on this experience, seem ineffective at best. Public areas, such as the basement, laundry room, hallways and elevators, have not been treated, and are a likely means of spreading the bugs.

It is hoped that a less-toxic and more effective treatment will be voluntarily adopted by the tenants (and landlord), the outcome is unknown but at this moment the problem is worsening, not improving; will report back on efforts to gain consensus on treatment.
