Itchy times three.

Have recently discovered bedbugs at Kenmore Courts, (a Krenger Company building), while moving furniture, etc. A woman in a neighboring apartment also recently told me that she has been getting bitten during the night; She moved into an apartment that was probably the source of the recent multi-apartment bedbug infestation, as the previous tenant in the unit had reportedly dragged an abandoned mattress in out of the alley, prior to moving out.

A few months ago, some - but not all - apartments

were treated for bedbugs.

They are now back.

A neighboring apartment reported bedbugs to management on September 4, but at the time, management treated only that apartment, not any other units. They also did not hire a professional exterminator, but instead sent one of their maintenance people.

Now, although bedbugs are spreading to other units, they are still not treating the entire building, but only apartments near the original apartment - that is, above, below and adjacent to it.

The building, Kenmore Courts, is owned an

d managed by John R. Krenger Real Estate, and covers multiple addresses: 5527-5539 N. Kenmore. The actual addresses in the building, all of which may be vulnerable to bedbug infestations, are as follows:

5527 N. Kenmore
5529 N. Kenmore
5529 1/2 N. Kenmore
5531 N. Kenmore
5533 N. Kenmore
5535 N. Kenmore
5535 1/2 N. Kenmore
5537 N. Kenmore
5539 N. Kenmore

As of this week, only units in 5533 and 5535 are being treated.

I wanted to update my posting about 5535 N Kenmore. Every time I have submitted a written notice about spotting a bed bug in my apartment or being bitten, my landlord has responded withing 24 hours of receiving the notice. The landlord has applied pesticides to my apartment a total of 3 times over the past 1 1/2 months, and I just received notice that they will spray the building this week. I have spotted the bugs much less frequently since I removed clutter from apartment floors, bought matt

ress covers, and my landlord began spraying. Now I might see one bug per week, or every other week. It seems that this type of bug is impossible to get rid of over night, but if tenants and landlords work together, eventually you can win the war.

I first spotted bed bugs in my bed on 9/04/08. I called the landlord and reported the problem. They asked their maintenance staff person to spray my apartment on 9/04/08 and 9/09/08, which it appeared that he did. I bought protective mattress covers for my mattress and box spring, applied them after the maintenance person sprayed, and I have not found any bugs in my mattress since. However, every day I still find bed bugs crawling on the walls and ceilings. I have written a letter to the la

ndlord requesting that a professional licensed pest control person be contacted, but they have not yet responded (it has not been 24 hours yet).
