May 25-June 4, 2015. I chose Marriott Waikoloa over the Hilton because of the absence of bed bug reports (Hilton had quite a few, especially the ocean and palace towers). The first two days I didn't notice anything, then noticed one bite on my arm. Every night for the next three nights, I noticed two or three fresh bites in the morning. I asked to switch rooms after the fourth night. I ended up getting 12-15 bed bug bites on my legs, no more on my arms. The manager heavily denied they had bed b

ugs, but the check-in ladies at registration when I got the new keys didn't bat an eye when I explained why we were moving, and the "security" man who came to my room offered tons of anti- sting creams, and more at the desk if I needed it!! We met a couple of women on a tour who switched towers at the Hilton for the same reason. They moved from ocean tower to the Makai (old name Lagoon) tower over there. They said no problems at the Makai due to new remodel. Our new room at the Marriott didn't seem to have been used much. The air conditioner was a wall unit- not central, and didn't get very cold. The toilet leaked at bit. The TV was not plugged in. I put bug spray on my legs and arms every night, and didn't get bit for the next six nights. My sister didn't get bit at all. Upon coming home, we washed all of our clothes and bagged up stuff we couldn't wash and set in the sun all day.
I received several calls from Marriott corporate headquarters in California from "Lisa". She reaffirmed that my room didn't have bed bugs. Ha!! It had been a week and a half. Bed bugs can be as small as a millimeter in their first molt and can move from room to room seeking carbon dioxide in one day! Even in their big molt stage they can squeeze through the tiniest of cracks (outlets). I would recommend wearing bed bug spray on legs at night if staying at any hotel or frbo condo in Hawaii, especially if you are prone to getting bit by them. I could see bites on other guests especially when we went to visit the Hilton during the day. Hilton is a nice 20 minute walk along coral beach from Marriott.
