Still a huge bedbug problem here that has now spread to the common areas of the building, which have had to be recently fumigated. Someone was supposed to come and talk about bedbugs early in January of 2013, but the talk was postponed. Not that it matters, as there are far too many hoarders in this wooden building and far too many of them have bedbugs. Since it is impossible to successfully exterminate a hoarder's bedbugs, that means the infestation will continue to spread and all the long ter

m senior tenants who never had bedbugs before will continue to suffer.

There's a great article online describing an inexpensive and reliable method to control and kill bedbugs. It takes a bit of effort but looks promising. Check it out at www.blow.pro.

Here's a thought. Since tenants can't be evicted for spreading bedbugs, perhaps everyone who has been infested by other tenants should catch as many of the bedbuggers alive as they can and transport them to BC Housing headquarters about once a week and turn them loose. That might make them rethink the kind of people they put in here.

PERHAPS IT IS TIME TO CHANGE ARCHAIC LAWS. MAYHAPS SOMEONE WILL SET A PRECEDENT "KNOWINGLY SPREADING BED-BUGGERY" THEN THE FELON WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO CROSS THE LINE!

A week or so ago some subhuman scum, with the help of other subhuman scum, dragged an upholstered couch, an upholstered chair, a mattress, and a box spring, all visibly CRAWLING WITH BEDBUGS, and none of them wrapped in plastic, through the halls and probably down the elevator in the dead of night in order to dump them beside -- not inside -- the dumpsters. They KNEW it is not only against the rules to dump furniture outside the building rather than hire someone to haul it away, but that they p

ut everyone else at risk of transporting bed bugs back into other areas of the building, including everyone who disposes of garbage in the dumpsters or scavenges in them, or innocently and unknowingly walks down the same halls or uses the same elevator the scum used.

The building manager said he would check the surveillance cameras and try to identity the sorry excuses for human beings who did this. But even if he does, all he can do is charge them a furniture removal fee. BC Housing supposedly can't evict them even when they deliberately spread bedbugs all over the building, and they have free rein to re-infest huge areas of the building for as long as they want to.

No one should be forced to tolerate "neighbors" like these.

YES. WE HAVE JUST LOST TWO MEMBERS OF OUR COMMUNITY DUE TO STRESS NO DOUBT. RASMUSSEN, LOIS'S CAREGIVER AND SOULMATE, ALTHOUGH MAYHAPS NOT A RESIDENT WAS OFTEN WITH HER AS WELL AS THE LOSS OF PREM.

IT AMAZES ME THAT DOW CHEMICAL WAS ONE OF THE FIVE CHEMICAL COMPANIES THAT MANUFACTURED AGENT ORANGE AND THE NAPALMB BOMB YET THEY CANNOT FIND A WAY TO ANNIHILATE BED BUGS.

WE AT 1985 HAVE HAD A VISIT FROM DOW CHEMICAL. PERMEATING THE APARTMENTS AND THE VERY PRODUCT USED, WHEN SAWED, IS TO BE

CLEANED UP IMMEDIATELY, NOT LEFT ON THE GROUND AS IT HAS BEEN ALL ALONG. YOU CAN VERIFY THIS INFORMATION BY OBTAINING A COPY OF THEIR MDS. IT SHOULD HAVE NEVER BEEN SAWED IN OUR CLOSE PROXIMITY THAT IS FOR SURE. I AM REFERRING TO THE BLUE AND CHARCOAL-COLOURED INSULATION WHICH, JUST HAPPENED TO HAVE TURNED MY WALLS BLACK.

TO THE PREVIOUS WRITER I HIGHLY DOUBT THAT ANY TENNANT WHO STILL HAS HIS FACULTIES ABOUT HIM WOULD BE WILLING TO "SETTLE" FOR A FREE DINNER FROM EITHER AQP, BC HOUSING OR MCW. THE AFOREMENTIONED ARE ALL CULPABLE FOR THE STRESS FACTOR, ONE WAY OR THE OTHER.

I DEFY ANYBODY TO SAY: "I FOUND OUT THAT IS NOT TRUE."

It is New Year's Eve and the bedbug problem is worse than ever. I overheard a mentally disturbed tenant who is being treated for bedbugs for the fifth time claiming he was told he didn't need to wash any of his belongings that weren't on the floor, which isn't true, and of course is why he has had bedbugs for more than a year that have now spread to his elderly neighbors. We are told that he cannot be evicted because bedbugs are classified as a pest rather than a health hazard. They are at the

very least a serious mental health hazard for the seniors who lived here bedbug free for up to 30 years before BC Housing decided seniors should be forced to live with drug and alcohol addicts, drug dealers, and the seriously mentally disturbed who brought bed bugs with them when they moved in, and who either cannot or will not make any effort to prevent reinfestation. The result is elder abuse of the worse kind for seniors forced to live in fear.

That elder abuse has been compounded by AQP, who ignored the September deadline for completion of renovations, then the November deadline, and then the December deadline. The patio doors of half the building remain locked after more than two years, even though most of the patios have been poured, and tenants still have windows covered with taped on paper instead of venetian blinds. As for the rumored Christmas party that AQP was planning to throw for the prison inmates -- that went the way of all other AQP promises. Not that anyone cares, since all the tenants, without exception, want only for the management and owners of AQP to rot eternally in hell for the unnecessary suffering inflicted on seniors, many of whom haven't survived the more than two years of hell.

Well I've noticed that the last report on this registry for this address was back in October of 2011..Doesn't mean that the bedbugs stopped visiting this address, just means people have been distracted by taking care of cleaning their clothing, re-organizing their entire lives to accommodate the bed bug creatures...Apparently, nothing changes, till something changes and until the management of this facility figures out another way to 1. Keep the bedbugs from coming into the building and 2. Killi

ng the current ones through some other successful method..surely not much will change.. In the meantime I will say my prayers and believe the bed bugs won't come visit me. Oh and by the way...bedbugs seems to be somewhat low on the priority list at this address because now we have asbestos exposure, radon exposure, fibreglass exposure, silica exposure, crystalline exposure with several people inundated with upper respiratory problems, sinus problems, eye infections etc...is it any wonder the bed bug exposure doesn't seem to be a big deal anymore....

To Mental Midget. Obviously you didn't live here before they finally installed surveillance cameras. Vandalism, theft, and and bullying have virtually disappeared from the areas with cameras. Unfortunately, we need cameras in the parking garage, the courtyards, at the ends of hallways and by the inside and outside dumpsters that the resident dumpster divers fish through daily so they can bring bedbug infested material back into the building. We also need the doors leading to the dumpsters at

the bottom of the garbage chutes locked the way they used to be. It's disgusting and a health and safety hazard that tenants are allowed to climb into dumpsters and crawl around in the garbage, although it was extremely amusing to hear the comments of a dumpster diver the day someone dropped a bag of wet and stinking kitty litter down the garbage chute that burst on his head. If BC Housing sprayed the dumpster contents daily with indelible purple dye they would be able to identify and get rid of at least part of the bedbug re-infestation problem.

Its my birthday today and I never imagined in all my years I'd be sitting here in the dark in the only place I can call home right now. The bed bugs haven't visited me yet and thank God for that, but the AQP workers make up for it by their constant morning routine of hammering on the scaffold..Thats's their way of saying its time to get up each morning...Shortly after that they start up the compressors that run all day regardless whether they are used or not...Cursing and loud yelling is routine

.....
I worked in the prison systme for years and can honestly say that the treatment of offenders is a far cry better than what I and other tenants have had to endure for too long now....I know this bed bug registry is not the appropriate place to voice my discontent of my housing arrangements...at the same time I am fully convinced that those I should be able to talk to have lost their hearing and are not interested in taking action on my behalf...Perhaps its time now to boycott and do a protest outside the building...Just a thought but I am sure it would draw the media attention and help that is much needed...And to think that Christy Clark is the MLA for my constiuency.....I'd like to see her come and take up residence here...she might then do something that counts.....anyhow there's my 2 cents for what its worth.

Oct. 2011
I have lost track of when all this started, I had all the notices stuck on the bathroom door. When I had a stroke my kids came to clean and set me straight for using a walker and took all the notices down because they thought it was just making me depressed.By this time it was Nov. 2010

When it all began we were told we had to immediately move EVERYTHING away from the windows by at least 3 feet. Once that is done my belongings all sit in the middle of my already tiny bachelor suite

.I have only two new windows installed, and no hope of seeing my balcony put to rights before late 2012.

I also have had run in with bedbug hunters but have been given a clean sheet[pun intended]. I expect it to continue though whether I have bites or not.

Nice to have a new generator to keep the electricity going but since the day it came on line the bathroom fan control is doing the 12:00 blinking!!! If I remember to turn it on manually I do.

Health wise I'm not doing well, my suite sits next to a firewall and the workmen used a pneumatic power tool to take off the stucco and all that dust came through the large cracks left by other workmen after tearing off the outside walls. So I've a miserable cough from cement dust lodged in the bottom of my lungs.

A PARTY???? Well that will probably happen after I'm dead and roasted!

How would you feel if you discovered large open cracks in your ceilings caused by construction workers dropping tons of lumber on your roof, or by workers ripping off siding and insulation and then pounding hundreds of old nails into your outside walls instead of pulling them, or by workers removing your windows and then sawing through the supporting stud by mistake so the corner of your ceiling dropped six inches, or cracks caused by sagging floors? How would you feel if many apartments on the

floor above you are infested with bedbugs that now have open access into your apartment? How would you feel if BC Housing told you you would have to wait more than two years for the cracks to be repaired until after the renovations were finished when you know AQP has already ignored the deadline for completion? How would you feel if your friends and relatives didn't want to visit you or have you visit them because of the bedbug problem in your building? Imagine you are a low income senior through no fault of your own. Would you feel depressed, frightened, helpless, hopeless, abandoned, valueless, suicidal?

How else could you feel if you can't afford to live anywhere else?

The same tenants are being treated for bedbugs time after time after time because those tenants stay in contact with friends from the downtown eastside either to visit them to obtain drugs etc. or allow them to illegally move into this building with them.

We didn't have a bedbug problem before BC Housing moved the hard to house into what used to be a building for seniors. Because BC Housing fumigates the neighboring apartments as well, whether they have bedbugs or not, many frail seniors ar

e repeatedly exposed to either toxins or harassment by BC Housing if they refuse to be exposed to poisons repeatedly.

Although BC Housing did promise to move out the most violent street people they moved in here before the Olympics, those tenants who have repeatedly reintroduced bedbugs are allowed to stay. BC Housing has publicly stated that those with mental health and/or addiction problems are their new priority and that seniors are being "encouraged" to move out.

Last week all 4 couches were removed from the lobby, reportedly because they were infested with bedbugs by the less cleanly tenants who sit on them for hours to watch TV. No wonder elderly tenants are afraid to leave their apartments because of the construction atrocities that are continuing long past AQP's deadline for completion and the fear of bringing bedbugs back with them if they step outside apartments that are still, many after two full years, dark from construction tarps, filthy from construction debris, with patio doors still nailed shut, where tenants are still forbidden to open their screenless, blindless filthy windows more than 4 inches. And according to a recent report by an engineering firm, the new siding and insulation applied by AQP will still cause up to 21 hours of discomfort a day even after the renovations are complete because of poor ventilation. The new automatic bathroom fans that were supposed to help with ventilation and prevent mold no longer work automatically -- not one of them -- and tenants have not been told by BC Housing to turn them on manually for at least 2 hours a day.

This is October 2011...How many more days and nights do I have to endure before I get to see out of my windows. Tell me how it is that any construction company in their right minds would expect individuals to live behind papered up windows with a pile of furniture pushed into the middle of the apartment to save it from being damaged by so called tradespeople pounding on the other side of the walls...My ceiling is cracked and about to give way...I hear the floors are sinking....there are a group

of women that are grouchy, backbiters, busy bodies and evil, some men have taken to strong drink and painkillers just to make it through another day and everybody is mad at somebody in here. We're all on edge.
and BC Housing says when its all over that AQP is going to throw us a Christmas party...Hey are you kidding me right now or what...a party...hell I want all my rent back going back to the beginning of this nightmare...I might then have a little peace of mind and get a life that counts.
Have we all gone mad....heck yes....and the government calls this a gift of a stimulus package to those of us who fall into the category of the vulnerable...Almost sounds like another Woodlands disaster doesn't it!

It is with great dismay and sadness that I write this report regarding what I thought was going to be a safe, supportive and clean environment for me to live in, while I re-organized my life, saved up some money, and prepared to live in market housing somewhere else.

Living under blue tarp for a very long time, hearing the constant horror stories of apartments having to be fumigated over and over again due to the inefficiencies of the various toxins used. Being woken up day after day and over

and over again, year in and year out with pounding headaches, due to the constant barrage of hammering, drilling and loud voices outside of my boarded up bedroom windows is enough to drive a "preacher to drink" as the saying goes...The loss of many of my friends both dying, and moving out has topped it off. The darkness inside my apartment is getting to me. The coping mechinisms used by the various residents at the least is quite unnerving. The fear of bed bugs visting me, haunts me..The filth of the new windows and flooring, not to mention the smell of urine soaked depends worn by some physically challenged individuals causes me to stay humble and focused on anticipating the completion of this hellish retrofit being done by a bunch of inadequate tradesmen.

AQP, run by Johan Sauer, has been retrofitting Steeves Manor for the last 2 years. He promised tenants that renovations would be done one wing at a time from start to finish, but instead he tore the whole building apart apart at once and by their deadline of September 30, 2011 AQP will have completed repairs on only half the building, leaving over 100 seniors and disabled tenants with their patio doors nailed shut and with windows they are forbidden to open more than 4 inches for two years and

living in filth, noise, and despair. The building is still infested with bedbugs as well as mice, rats and other vermin because of the huge piles of construction debris and workers' garbage and cigarette butts that are never cleaned up except when tenants complain to the city building inspectors. AQP is notorious for their shoddy workmanship, shoddy materials, abuse of tenants, and perennial failure to meet deadlines in BC Housing buildings. Interior damage to walls, ceilings, and windows due to their exterior renovations has made the bedbug and vermin problem worse. BC Housing refuses to hold AQP responsible for their lies, broken promises and abuse of the elderly.

1985 Wallace is a building being retrofitted for the last two years by AQP Ltd. The building is dirty. There is no autonomy for the renters of this residence and abuse is running rampant from construction. The janitor walks around with a dustpan and broom opposed to a vacuume cleaner with a clean bag. The resident manager leaves much to be desired as did the previous live-in. When a resident sifts through the garbage bags of course bed-bug-ridden materials return to the building.

YOUR TAX DO

LLARS AT WORK! The sad thing is that if the seniors were young and good looking they would pay their $500 hundred in rent and their mate $700 and live in a decently-run building rather than being subsudized by the government which pays the salaries of BC Housing.

After 24 years, my elderly mother is leaving this bulding due to a huge infestation of bedbugs, and the concern for her safety due to the types of people now being housed there. Being one of the cleanest residents in this building, it is shocking.
Originally mandated for seniors, the mandate was changed some time ago, and under instructions from higher entities is now placing "anyone in need" in here. Most newer residents are homeless people, dual-diagnosed, mentally ill and (supposedly) rec

overing addicts, pedophiles, etc.
I live close by, and have seen 'BINNERS' from 1985 WALLACE, going through our garbage cans.
There is no concern for the seniors who have called this place "Home" - some for longer than my mother. Many of these people simply stay in their units and won't come out. Many don't have much family support so they suffer in silence. "They" claim to be helping 'as many as they can', but at what expense? At the expense of our seniors, most of whom cannot, or are afraid to speak out. Homeless people, I'm sure, would be much happier housed in the areas they spend their time, and with a similar mix of people. Riverview should never have been closed down. Many people with mental illness should never be left to make their own decisions as to "IF' they take their meds, and, in not taking them, possibly putting many fragile seniors and handicapped people at risk. BUT - they are all thrown in together here, and left to fend for themselves. HOW CAN THIS TOTALLY UNCARING GOVERNMENT SIT THERE AND PAT THEMSELVES ON THE BACKS, STATING "WE ARE HELPING THE HOMELESS". I wonder how they would handle it if one of their loved ones was in a situation such as my Mother? But of course with their incomes it probably wouldn't happen. They will 'control' who lives in their close quarters. I AM SO DISGUSTED! I intend to take this further, but am still studying my options.
In moving my Mother it is costing me a bundle. but I certainly can't blame her - could you continue to live somewhere that is only going to get worse? I don't this so.
