July 12 2009.....Just spent 5 days of fun at the 50th barbie convention in washington DC. Stayed at the Omni Shoreham Hotel room 835. On Sunday morning getting ready to check out spotted a speck on corner of duvet (which i thought was a crumb) flicked it off ,it left a blood spot ...first thing i thought of was oh my god a bed bug ...told room mate she was not very excited , so check around bed ( sheets and feather bed covers are pure white) spotted nothing ,,,so thought na must have been a fruit fly ?? Then after waiting about 20 min. seen a dark object same area moving ...jumped up and smushed it (leaving a 1/4" spot of blood ) now thats it!! bugs !!!...called front desk told them to inspect our room for bugs . Was told "security would be up "...10 mins later a call " sending up head of housekeeping"...head of housekeeping came in holding a plastic bag ..she examined area where i made the kill kept a remains on a piece of cardboard and further examined the bedding and looked under the mattress,. then she found one alive and captured it in bag and said does'nt look like a bed bug ,(she had classes in bed bugs but never seen one ) this will be sent to engineering and she could call me when they find out what it is .....I looked it up when i got and yep a bed bug....I could not find any bites on me thank goodness !!..oh ya she offered us breakfast and said so sorry ,we just had cereal ...so ended up getting 2 coffees and 2 orange juices from room service no charge .then proceeded to check out , looked over our 840 dollar bill and expressed check out over phone....

I would have reported this event when it happened but I did not know about this web site. From 7/9 through 7/12/06, I stayed in room 281 where I received numerous bed bug bites. I did not realize the problem until I returned home. Before I left for Washington, DC I had been trimming ivy and laying on the ground. I thought something in the grass bit me. When I got home and the itching got worse and worse, I began searching the internet for possible causes and realized the problem was bed bugs. I sent for a proper spray and treated all my clothing and luggage. I was lucky that my home did not get infested. I contacted the Omni Shoreham and reported the problem. I have an e-mail from John Gardner, Assistant Director of Engineering, saying he checked that room and found no signs of bedbugs. He hypothesized that I suffered an allergic reaction to chemicals or detergents used in the hotel. My problem was definitely bed bugs bites. They matched pictures perfectly and led to a severe allergic reaction of itching. I would happily scratch my skin off to stop it. Finally I found that taking anti-itch medication kept the itching under control and allowed my immune system to recover. Susanne Robb

I just got back from a trip to D.C. for my second time. Stayed at this hotel. I woke up and found all these bites on my hands. Never stay here.

Find another hotel. Shell out the money. It's not worth infesting your clothes.
